Hi! We’re heading to the Kimberley this year and were hoping to have friends visit, without having to return to Darwin each time! Can anyone tell us of any good pick up/drop off points, if any? What’s Derby or Wyndham like? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tramp.
Other than flying in by charter aircraft, Wyndham and Derby are it. Both are quite a distance off the beaten track, do your numbers, as you may find it less costly in time and dollars to fly your friends in, rather than you going well out of your way to pick them up. See https://kccyc.org.au/charter-aircraft-contacts/
You can now charter the aircraft used by the recently restarted Cockatoo Island Resort to get crew and supplies in. They fly out of Broome. I learnt about this in the last few days. You can also buy a beer at the bar on Cockatoo as well – welcome news. It is run by Dean Kemp, who operates the fuel barge at Dog Leg Creek in Yampi Sound.
Regards,
Ross

Thanks Ross! Good intel on the beer too. If you see us round, pop over and say hi. We’ll be heading into the area around May.

HiThere Ross
We intend travelling to the Kimberley region early May for approx. 3 weeks
Can you advise if the Berkeley River Lodge Airstrip is available for members to use to transfer crew/supplies in and out and if there is a fee for the use
Cheers

Hi Michael,
The Berkeley lodge has new owners, and I haven’t contacted them since they took possession, so I’m not 100% sure. But last year they were allowing fly in/out crew transfers, and they were charging about $200 as a landing fee and 4WD transfer from the airstrip to beach. They have their busy times during the day, particularly if they have lots of guests, so talk to them about the best time to arrive.
The direct phone number at the lodge is (08) 9254 3268
All the best,
Ross

To: Jeff Boyd <zmtndoc@gmail.com>Hi Jeff,
Yep that’s no problem, we’ll be here.
Out tray back can fit 3passengers comfortably, 4 if they want to squish. It’ll be $50pp and you just let us know what time the plane comes etc, we can sort details when you get here 🙂
I’ll put you in our calendar but if you’re able to just drop us an email or call closer to the time as a reminder too that’d help.
Cheers
