Planning on doing a trailer boat trip May or June 2025 for around 14 days. Undecided weather to leave from Honeymoon Bay return trip or Derby return trip any recommendations offshore clear water where I could have a dive.

A couple of points for you to think about.

How big is your boat? The track to Kalumburu and further on to Honeymoon Bay is a very ordinary 4WD only track, and if you are towing a trailer boat that is big enough to head out to sea for 14 days, my thoughts are that your trailer and boat will be damaged by the time you get to HB.

Have a chat to the guys at the Mary Island Fishing Club in Derby. They have plenty of trailer boat experience in the west Kimberley coast.

Diving along the Kimberley Coast is not recommended. Crocs live around the off-shore islands such as Cassini Island. And they are much harder to spot offshore than they are up a creek or river.

          Cheers, Ross

Hi Northbank, I’ve done the run for Derby in a 6.75m Centre console. We operated mainly in the West Kimberley from Tolbat bay to Prince Regent. We dived Montgomery reef and the back of Adel island. Not really recommended, so manny small and some large sharks where everywhere. Finding camp sites was also challenging with the tides but we had a fantastic time. We were in 2 boats to support each other. Be across the weather back into Derby through Hellsgates one of the most challenging conditions I’ve experienced and our buddy was almost lost. Enjoy

Hi Northbank – we have left from Derby before, have another trip planned, leaving Derby 10th May, basically Derby to Kuri bay and everything in between, 8m Chivers Meridian Ext Hard Deck, about 3 weeks up and back. Doing solo trip this year, just me and the Mrs.
