If you’re planning a cruise to the Kimberley in 2021, use this topic to post a brief outline of your sailing plans. You can arrange to meet up with other vessels, cruise in company, ask questions, get info etc.
Hope to see you out there.

Ros and I are leaving Perth on R&R mid/late April with plans to meet up with everyone at the KCCYC Beach Party on 4th July. Then on to Darwin for the wet season.
We sailed through the Kimberley from Darwin to Perth a few months ago and due to Covid 19 restrictions, we literally saw only 2 other private vessels between the Bonaparte Gulf and King Sound. Hopefully 2021 will be open to cruising crews from all over Australia to enjoy and explore the KC.

We’re starting to think about crossing the bight this summer and heading up the west coast. Boat is ‘Duplicat’, Privilege 435, and likely to be me and whoever I can find to crew (and even better if we find a way to get my wife back into the country from the UK!).

Hi All,
My wife Helen and I will be resetting our cancelled trip from this year and departing start of July out of Derby in our RL28 trailer sailer heading east and aiming to reach Darwin by around 17th of September. This will be our second trailer sailer trip to the Kimberley but hoping to see a lot more of the coast this time round. Hopefully we see a few of you along the way and if you see our small boat “Neringa” (you can’t miss the name) be sure to say hello.
Cheers Mark

Hi All,
Greg and I will sail to the Kimberley Coast departing Darwin April/May as soon as the weather permits. We own a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2. We are planning a 3 month trip to Broome, to visit family, re-stock and re-fuel, then return to Darwin over the following 3 months to arrive before the cyclone season begins again. 2021 will be our 5th wonderful trip through the Kimberley.
Hope to see you out there. Fair winds and safe sailing.
Robyn and Greg

Hi Mark, I just spoke to friends who caretake the Faraway Bay Resort near the King George River over the wet season. They report reasonable rainfall in December and the creeks have started to flow. Hopefully, the La Nina in the Pacific will keep the rain coming over the next few months and you will get to see the falls and creeks in flow.
Some advice you are likely to get from plenty of other sailors up north and from me, having done the trip several times, is to delay your return back from Darwin to Qld to as late in the dry season as possible. The east to south-easterly trade winds across the top and down the FNQ coast are consistently 20-25 knots most days. The seas are short and steep in this breeze and make for hard sailing, or mostly motoring. The trades start to drop off around mid November and if you’re lucky, you may get a N or NW breeze from December on. I suggest leaving Darwin early November..
Cheers,
Ross

Hello all,
Some friends and I are bringing my boat back to Exmouth from Darwin in early April.
We cruised across the top from Cairns in late 2019 and then got stuck with covid.
So, a slow trip through the Kimberley sounds great – would like to meet up with other boats and also source relevant information on safe cruising this area please.
Hope to make the famous bbq also.

Hi Ross, I will be departing Darwin for Fremantle on SV Kelpie 1. The number of stops I make in the Kimberley will depend on the amount of time off work I get. One stop I would like to make will be the King George Falls.
At this time I am planning to depart Darwin in the first week of June.
I would like to keep in contact with anyone in the area around that time so please feel free to do the same.

Hi – planning to leave Mandurah WA early April to arrive Darwin by 26 May – then joining other boats to come back and explore the Kimberleys in June /July.
Have never travelled waters north of Perth -and would greatly appreciate the ability to travel in company of other more experienced skippers in these waters if possible – ideally exploring Abrolhos & Montebello’s enroute .Riviera 56 with good long range fuel capacity and great on board facilities .
Currently only 2 pax on board – ideally looking for a third person ( experienced ) to share skipper duties -especially if overnight passage making is part of the itinerary.
Notice that Memphis Belle , Q, & Orca are all looking to do same ‘similar trip’-your contact details greatly appreciated.thanks

Hi all,
Glen and Kym here sailing Tigress Too, we are hoping to leave Mandurah in the first weeks of April heading up to the Kimberley and then on to Darwin and maybe across to Queensland looking forward to meeting up at the 2021 beach party.
We are fairly new to sailing, been having lessons to start getting our skills up, and whilst we have nowhere near the skill sets of some long time sailors are feeling confident enough to be able to set out and start moving.
We are happy to buddy up with anyone that may be heading North at that time if anyone else would like the added comfort of having another vessel close to hand.

Hi
We were intending to set sail last Friday, but had a set back to one of the crew so had to wait till this Friday. Rang the NT Covid hotline and they have told us that we are unable to leave Darwin Harbor whilst the lockdown is in place. So who knows when we will be leaving.
Anyway we are doing some repairs whilst we wait although thats hard as the chandlery stores are all closed as well. We wait with baited breath to see what the next announcement includes.
