We’ve been using ours on the road and will continue to do so on the water for the next few weeks. Has worked a treat so far. You can see it tracking and posting messages at https://buccaneerbound.blogspot.com/p/location-tracker.html?m=0

Hey Glenn. Ah bugger! never mind. Yeah permits only took about 2 weeks to come through after all the BS of figuring out how to apply for them. We just arrived in derby and will hit the water the day after tomorrow. I’ll be loading some trip notes at https://buccaneerbound.blogspot.com which might be useful for your planning. If you wanna chat afterwards chuck a comment here or in the blogspot and we’ll talk.

I feel your pain Glenn. I just went through the same thing with permits last month. We’re launching at Derby around the same time (24th June)  as you and heading up as far as the Sale as well. Might see you on the water.

We’ve just bought one in prep for our kimberly trip in a few months time. Wil trying it for the first time over Easter break (great sandy strait near Fraser Island – east coast)

Will let you know how it goes.

We’re mainly hoping to use it to get weather reports via sat. But you’re also supposed to be able to connect to your mobile/ tablet/ garment GPS to send/ receive SMS’s and alert emergency services if you need help.

Hi Spike – I just stumbled across this https://maps.daa.wa.gov.au/EntryPermitsMap/ which lists the Southern Cross crash site location as:

              15* 37′ 24.0″S

              124* 43′ 24.7″E

Hey Spike, All4Adventure did an episode on this a few years ago and made it to the plaque. They are pretty responsive if you email them with questions. https://www.all4adventure.com

                Best of luck.

Yikes! Sounds a bit sketchy. Glad everyone was ok.

Did you fellas tow a tinnie as a tender/estuary boat? Or could you get to all the places you wanted to without one?

I’m thinking we’ll want to get up some creeks occasionally ans also do a bit of beach camping. I’m ok with the boats being high and dry (on sand). Not so keen on having to swim to and from the boats on account of the big lizards though. 😉

                    Thanks Mark thanks Hamish.

                    Much appreciated. Can’t wait!

Hamish it sounds like there’s a bit of a war story behind your comments about Stokes Bay. Hope you’re not too scarred from the experience 😉

We’re a 6.5m trailer boat so not exactly “saling” – but I hope you will still talk to us regardless 😉 We’re thinking we’ll be launching from Derby around 24th of June and returning on about 15th July. This will be our first time on the water in the area. Hope to make it as far north as the Sale river.

There will be two boat – ours, “Skull Drag’n” and another boat “Bundy Runner”.

                      Party will be 4 adults and 2 kids (14 & 12).

Gday Mark. Thanks so much for the info. Really helpful. We planning to be there in Jun/Jul. Do you think we’re leaving it too late in the season? Do you do it in April to get the best weather?

Thanks for the info Blechy. I’m planning a trip for winter 2019 – towing some 6.5m trailer boats from Brisbane to Derby and exploring on the water for abour 3 weeks from there. Was wondering if you know of any secure parking for the vehicles and trailers that can be found at Derby?
