I was very confused in particular who provided permits for the King George River. After speaking with the contact number provided by the Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation web site, I was advised there is no paid permit required to access land at the KGR. Obviously this is for visiting vessels and not for 4WD access as do not know what that requirement is. You will still require the DPLH provided permit.

Update to my original post, I am scheduled to depart Darwin 15/6 AM for KGR. Joining me will be my wife Lyn and my brother Charles. I would be happy to meet and communicate with persons on vessels in the area. If you do hear us on the radio or see us, please feel free to come aboard.

          Hi Ross,

I now understand and consider your response to be extremely valuable to me and hopefully others in my situation. No doubt, I will be following your advice.

          Thank you very much,
          Keith

Thank you Ross for your information and advice.

Could you please help me understand why it is not a good idea going over the KGR bar on an ebbing tide?

My limited understanding would be to go over the bar on the way out of the river very shortly after the ebb tide begins. This would give me sufficient draft and the tidal flow would assist the passage out, saving fuel. On the way in I would go over the bar when the draft reaches 2 meters, I would presume it to be approximately half way through the rising tide. This would also assist my passage going into the river. I would be happy to learn from your experience.

Hi Ross, I will be departing Darwin for Fremantle on SV Kelpie 1. The number of stops I make in the Kimberley will depend on the amount of time off work I get. One stop I would like to make will be the King George Falls.

At this time I am planning to depart Darwin in the first week of June.

I would like to keep in contact with anyone in the area around that time so please feel free to do the same.
