Thanks for the info and I will have to consider my options. It would be difficult for me to even get much of a hard dingy up to the Kimberley’s from South Australia given my towing and travelling package shown here. I would have to buy up there.
The guys in the video appear to be idiots however. Who the hell teases and draws in an apex predator and expects they are not drawing in danger.
I have no intention of fishing from a dingy or fishing in likely croc locations at all.
I have kayaked in croc and in my view the more dangerous hippo infested water previously and walked amongst apex predictors.
Caution, respect and some understanding of their wants, needs and habits helps in my view understanding they can all suddenly do the entirely unexpected. 🙂

I am planning an extended cruise in mid 2024 in a 28 foot trailerable power sailer. It can motor in 50cms of water and travel at 15knots under outboard if needed on very rare occasions.
Like the original poster my current dingy option is a small inflatable which lifts up onto the foredeck virtually at all times via my spinnaker pole and deck winch acting as a crane.
I get the inflatable croc teething ring worries and the travelling in a very small dingy in croc infested waters.
Having a smallish, very shallow draft and nimble main craft however I am wondering how much I will miss with not having a big hard dingy?
I have looked at lots of dingy options but carrying the dingy onboard and not dragging one behind is a huge attraction.

          Hi Ian

What TS are you planning the trip in and where are you located?
I have been seeking a capable other TS owner to travel in company with at some time as my very experienced friends (10 plus Kimberley’s ts expeditions) have recently got too frail to do another finally as I am about ready to.
I early retired 20 years ago and had a Mach 28 build commenced to go sailing there when life threw me a curve ball via an unexpected late life daughter.
I have finally slightly early still retired again with a new partner and my daughter has just flown the nest . We have an Imexus 28 close fully equipped and ready to go.
We completed a six week live onboard shakedown cruise mid last year and intend a 3 month full test on the Barrier Reef July to October this year along with other shorter cruises.
We have been invited sailing in Greece next year but the dream of doing an extended cruise to the Kimberley’s is paramount.🙂

I have sailed and then cruised Trailer Sailers for just over 50 years now but mostly in much smaller ones than my current close to maximum trailerable big 28 footer.

            Hi Rob

We might see you up there as 2025 around May is our plan for that area as well.
We are heading for The Great Barrier Reef this August to October to try the 2-3month live aboard process on our yacht having maxed out at 6 weeks to date.
We are intending being out in The Kimberley’s much longer which is more difficult in trailerable engine only boats. Our trailerable 28 foot yacht also has a 115hp Yamaha so can move around relatively quickly or against tidal currents on the plane if required but chews a lot of fuel doing that.
How big is your boat and engine?
Your fully loaded fuel consumption at your preferred motoring speed?
            Your projected fuel carrying capacity?

Hi Rob When you say trailer boat do you mean trailable yacht or powerboat?
I am currently cruising in company on the Murray River with perhaps Australia’s most experienced Kimberley’s trailer sailers and hoping to emulate their Kimberley’s feats of now over 20 years in my 28 foot trailable Imexus.
