Hello members. I have just joined KCCYC as I am delivering my newly purchased Duncanson 35 from Brisbane to Perth across the top. The boat is currently in Darwin while I return for a few weeks for work and I will be departing Darwin around 30 Sep.  Unfortunately I have a really tight schedule as once again work is getting in the way of living. So this visit (my first by boat) to the Kimberley region is a quick one. I will be coming back though in the next couple of seasons!  I am intending to head straight for the Berkley River from Darwin rather than via Port Keats. I will then only have about 12 days before I need to be in Broome.  Can anyone recommend must see  anchorages after Berkley R. for this whirlwind trip. Thanks very much.

          Hi Querida,

12 days will be very tight to see much at all, because many good anchorages require some fairly big side tracks where you will easily loose days getting in and out, as well as the days it takes to explore them. Tides will also govern and slow your progress in and out of anchorages. But here’s a few I can recommend that aren’t too far off your route.

King George River. (Can only get in and out at high tide)

          Freshwater Bay

          Rainforest Ravine

          Hanover Bay

          Deception Bay

          Silver Gull Creek

          Coppermine Creek

Thanks very much Ross. Yep I know 12 days is a rush through such a fantastic area. If only work didn’t get in the way of life !!!  I will be back so this will give me a taste for next time.  Cheers Grant
