Hi. We are in the process of planning our trip from Townsville to Perth this season. We are based in Perth, purchased our yacht on the East coast last year and spent 2 months in the whitsundays last year. We have previously sailed the Kimberley from Perth to Darwin over 10 years ago and this time doing it the other way with 2 kids in tow.

We are working around work commitments and school holidays (to an extent) and trying to figure out the best way to plan things.

One scenario involves leaving Darwin early October.

Is this leaving the run too late to get back to Perth? Any advice appreciated.

        Thanks

          Hi Eventide,

I’m not sure about the sailing weather between Broome and Perth that time of year, but it will be getting pretty warm and sticky in the Kimberley from around September. It can be uncomfortable if you’re not used to living in tropical conditions.

          Regards,

          Ross

Also too, the southerlies that “kick in” around the nor west cape (exmouth to carnarvon) can be pretty relentless from October onwards. Best doing it from April to Oct in my op. but still doable if you’re not in a hurry.

Homeschool the kids! that what we do. gives you a lot more time freedom.

            BR, Dave.
