Hi Northbank, I’ve done the run for Derby in a 6.75m Centre console. We operated mainly in the West Kimberley from Tolbat bay to Prince Regent. We dived Montgomery reef and the back of Adel island. Not really recommended, so manny small and some large sharks where everywhere. Finding camp sites was also challenging with the tides but we had a fantastic time. We were in 2 boats to support each other. Be across the weather back into Derby through Hellsgates one of the most challenging conditions I’ve experienced and our buddy was almost lost. Enjoy

We are taking our new boat (Maritimo 64)again through the Kimberley from Darwin to Fremantle for our 4th trip through. Taking it slow this time and planning on a full 3 months Darwin to Broome then straight south to beat the Southerly winds in September. See you somewhere

All good Nat, we were fine as we were loaded well and well organised but our friends who we were travelling with took a lot of water and almost floundered, things can change pretty quickly, Great trip that will be added to along the Kimberley coast. H

Hi Nat, just returned yesterday from the same trip, 3 weeks in a 6.75m. The caravan park in Derby were really helpful and I would also recommend them. It was getting dry these past weeks as expected and water more difficult to find freely flowing but fantastic conditions each day 16/32 degrees. Do watch out for the Eastly into Stokes Bay – it’s terrable in a small boat and dangerous if your not prepared. Enjoy. Regards Hamish

Hi KCCYC Members, After having our first experience through the Kimberley in 2014, we are planning to do it again in 2016 in my vessel Queste – Riviera 60 – home port of Fremantle.
We indicitavely are planning a boys delivery departing Exmouth in the first week of June 2016, navigating via the Montebello Islands & Rowley Shoals to Silver gull creek (missing Broome). We will spend approx 12 days delivering the boat to Darwin.
Our more significant trip will depart Darwin late June and spend 5-6 weeks cruising east-west with my wife, Ngaire, and my 2 kids Amelia, 13 & Mason, 11. Last year we had the most fantastic experience and will be doing it again with our kids and far more time up our sleeves.
This time we won’t have a inflatable dingy as we have just upgraded to a Polycraft 4.1m. I recall we had 7 leaks and a sizeable hole to contend with in the brand new RIB last year. We clocked up over 220NM exploring every day so I endorse Ross’s comments regarding RIBs.
Looking forward to a great Kimberly cruising season.
                    Hamish
